It’s that wonderful time of year again! The Cincinnati Review will open our Submission Manager for all submissions on Sunday. (Did we mention your submission is . . . free?) Please read our submission guidelines here and send us your goodies.
If you submitted work during our last submission period (September 2018–March 2019) and haven’t heard back from us yet, that means we’re still considering your work. We read on a rolling basis, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
For those of you who might be new to The Cincinnati Review and/or if you are curious about what goes on behind the scenes . . . here’s the breakdown:
We received nearly 8,000 submissions last year. We have a small staff of two permanent part-time editors, four genre editors, three graduate-student editors who read during the school year, two summer graduate editors, and volunteers (usually from 8-15, depending on the year).
Our staff produces both the print magazine and the miCRo online series. We read every submission from start to finish. Most submissions are read a minimum of two times (a volunteer will read your submission first, followed by an editor). While it might take a while for you to hear back from us, we want to make sure your piece receives careful consideration.
So . . . what are you waiting for? We’re (nearly) ready for your work. The earlier you submit, the quicker you’ll hear back from us.
We look forward to reading your poems, stories, essays, hybrid pieces, and more!
