Our annual (free!) reading period for the print magazine starts tomorrow! Send your poems, stories, essays, and more our way, via our Submission Manager. (We’re also open for miCRo submissions, as we are most of the year.)

But if you haven’t yet heard from us about your submission from the 2019–2020 reading period, do not fear: as we’ve mentioned before, we read on a rolling basis, year-round, so we’re still finishing up some submissions from that time frame.

A few updates to our submission guidelines: We’re no longer accepting art submissions or sample review submissions.

And a more dramatic change: our reading period for the print magazine will end on January 1, 2021.

We’re a comparatively small crew: two permanent but part-time staff, four genre editors who volunteer their time to curate the print journal, three graduate-student editors who read submissions and curate the miCRo series during the academic year, a summer-term graduate-student editor, and hardy volunteer editorial assistants (their numbers can range from 8-15).

And we got more than 8,800 submissions (not including our summer contest) in 2019–2020! With the ever-increasing number of submissions and the demands on our staff (heightened in the pandemic), we want to make sure we don’t take on more work than we can handle.

So don’t delay in sending us your work! We look forward to reading it.
